The newly established connection between Dutch and Ukrainian senior citizens is enriching the lives of both population groups
Communication makes the world go round. But as people get older, the use of digital communication tools frequently creates obstacles to keeping in touch with their nearest and dearest. That is why we have devised a spin-off for our long-running project Joining Forces.
Created to help Dutch elderly individuals connect with friends and relatives during Covid, Joining Forces has shifted focus to help Ukrainian refugees keep in touch with family members, both in Ukraine and elsewhere.
What is new, is that we are now distributing tablets, specially designed by our partner Compaan, to enable Dutch and Ukrainian senior citizens in the Netherlands to get to know each other online. Once we had explained how to use the tablets to the first recipients, they said they were “beyond excited”.
